Africa is experiencing a historic economic transition, offering a unique opportunity for the continent to redefine its position in the global economy.
This sentiment took center stage at the recent Africa CEO Forum, which gathered Heads of State, policymakers, and business leaders to map out sustainable growth.
Representing HACO Industries on a high-level panel, our Managing Director, Mary-Ann Musangi, joined fellow leaders to examine the critical levers shaping the continent’s next phase of development.
“True economic resilience lies in our ability to manufacture locally and scale regionally,” Mary-Ann Musangi noted during her panel session. “African manufacturers have a massive opportunity to satisfy local demand, but this requires deliberate policies that lower the cost of doing business, improve productivity, and foster industrial growth”.
To drive this next phase of growth, the forum highlighted several critical priority areas for the private sector and government partners:
- Strengthening Local Manufacturing: Long-term prosperity depends heavily on increasing local value addition, building production capabilities, and reducing import dependency.
- Building Regional Value Chains: The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) provides an unprecedented opportunity to access larger markets. HACO is already driving this through regional expansion, including manufacturing operations in Ghana and growing cross-border distribution.
- Unlocking Patient Capital: Manufacturing is capital-intensive, requiring long-term financing structures aligned with industrial growth, alongside efforts to harmonize major costs like energy.
- Embracing Sustainability & Innovation: Integrating resource efficiency and digital transformation are no longer optional; they are fundamental drivers of modern market competitiveness.
Ultimately, the insights from the Africa CEO Forum reaffirmed that navigating infrastructure gaps, foreign exchange constraints, and market integration demands a unified effort. HACO Industries remains committed to advancing sustainable manufacturing and pioneering regional integration.
After all, the continent’s future will not just be defined by what we produce, but by how effectively we collaborate, innovate, and build together.
